Through business my goal is to make a contribution to as many people as I can and in order to realise this I decided to study in another country.
Due to the development of the internet and globalisation, communicating in English is becoming more common among people from nations where English is not the mother language. And even in Japan, we can see the number of tourists from foreign countries has been constantly increasing in recent years and I feel that the opportunities for using English has increased significantly.
I believe that being able to communicate with many different kinds of people will open up possibilities for me. It will also be a great opportunity for me to broaden my knowledge and experience, both in class and through the interaction with other university students and also while living in Australia, which is why I intend to study abroad.
Frankly speaking I am a little nervous about putting myself in an environment which I have never experienced before. However I am looking forward to studying my major at the faculty of business administration at Griffith University, which has many skilful professors and a good reputation for its business studies and interaction with many students who have come from various countries.
It will be great that I will be able to experience many new things which I’ve never done before and which I can only do in Australia.
It’s been half a year since I started studying in Australia. I really feel that the time has passed so quickly and I’m very pleased that I chose to come to Australia to study.
Australia is a country full of diversity. In addition to the Australian people, Australia is made up of many people from around the world of different nationalities who are here for reasons such as business or education.
The many students at Griffith University where I’m currently studying come from a wide variety of cultural roots, so I am genuinely interested in deepening my understanding of the different cultural aspects of others.
Moreover, by taking business courses at Griffith University, I can see that the way classes are conducted and the content that is provided is quite different to what I had in Japan. More specifically, most classes at Griffith University often hold group discussions in addition to the lectures. There are classes called workshops and tutorials in which small numbers of students deepen their understanding by making presentations or discussing the content of the lectures.
Most classes that I was enrolled in back in Japan mainly consisted of lectures, so I wasn’t really used to breaking the ice with others at first. But as I try to communicate with other students in class discussions, I’ve gradually been able to open up with people in a more friendly way than I did before.
This skill of opening up more with people I meet for the first time is a desirable goal that I will keep working on and is necessary since I can enhance my knowledge from class through discussions which strengthen my motivation to keep studying everyday.
I will keep making an effort everyday to utilise the precious time I have left for my studies in Australia.
The one year I spent in Australia flew by really quickly. I feel that 2018 was the most stimulating and exciting year in my life.
My initial expectations for this exchange student program was for self growth and to expand the possibilities for my future goals. Looking back on my experience in Australia, I think I have successfully accomplished these expectations with my studies last year.
Australia is a country full of diversity and the people’s lifestyles, thoughts, opinions and environment are quite unique in many aspects compared to what we have in Japan.
In some cases these differences may cause difficulties or struggles when adapting to a new environment, but I tried to look at these differences as new discoveries and enjoyed living in Australia.
Griffith University, the university which I attended, had a multicultural environment around the campus and the students were of varied races and ages and each held differing opinions. I found that many students actively spoke out and shared their opinions in class and it made me think that the classes were of a very high standard.
Including the classes at university, everything from communicating with others to extracurricular activities were all new experiences for me and I gained more confidence from this. I believe that this will be beneficial to my life in the future.
I’m glad that I decided to apply for this student exchange program and that I had a really good time in Australia.
