Opportunity of the studying abroad, purpose

I personally love to learn new language. And that's why up until now I can speak several foreign languages. Like Javanese, my original language, Indonesian language, and other foreign language that I'm able to speak is English and Arabic. I like to listen to Japanese songs as well and that's when I think I need to learn Japanese as well. From 2019, I entered Darma Persada University and took Japanese language as my major. There, I'm learning about many things about Japan, like the language, culture and society. After I enrolled to the university and found out that I can learn many things about Japan, I start to think that I need to experience it by myself. And that's why I applied for the exchange student program that provided by my university that collaborated with Kansai University of International Studies and I'm grateful that I got accepted. Even for me Kanji reading and various Japanese grammar are difficult, but this is the chance that I have to use it very well because here I can use and learn about it more and more in my daily life.

I want to learn many things while participating in this program, like the various method of communication, either in business way or in general.
I hope I can make new friends, as well as I can learn things I hope I can be good at it even though I'm still feeling anxious about it.

Right now, since I'm in Japan, I really want to do many things in my daily life. I can try and practice my Japanese in my daily life, I can experience the cultural and society life everyday, and that's really a good chance for me.

For me personally, since the major that I’m taking here is Global Communication, aside from anxiety that I got from thinking what’s probable things that I might be facing, I really hope I can upgrade my English skills. Up until now I only learn English on my own, aside from learning it at school which isn’t so intensively. I hope I can meet the native speaker teacher and get upgraded with it, either in my conversation or my formal study about English in general.
That aside, I hope the same thing for my Japanese study. People and other friends of mine praised me for being able to imitate the accent but my Japanese grammar isn’t that good, that’s what I really need to learn.

By participating in this study program, all I want to do in general is upgrading myself, improving my skills whether in language I’m currently learning and be able to practice it well with others.
I know that learning language will always be a good point and chance for us in the future. Either in work life or in general, because we communicate with other people in different background using language. There is saying that said, when you talk to people with language they’re speaking, you got that person’s heart. It means that when we talk with people in language they’re speaking, we don’t only get the information we need, but we get their heart and attention too. Isn’t this always be a plus point wherever we are stepping our feet on?

Experience while studying abroad

Now one semester has passed, and I can't believe myself that I can achieve what I have now. From my previous goal, I said that I really want to learn more Japanese while studying here and practicing it with everyone that I encounter. Now months passed and I have several achievements I need to share. I got my part time job in sushi restaurant that recently opened, and I really learn many things there. For starter, I can learn how’s the work environment in Japan. I’m learning new thing every day.

Now I know every fish name that used as sushi. I also know how the workload is being distributed here, be disciplined, use the time wisely and get rewarded after. It is really interesting experience for me. As an exchange student, I really can learn the basic Japanese at school, how to use the proper language and grammar and anything, and at the same time I also learn how to be a worker here. Seeing how hard Japanese works, I want to work in either Japanese company or any other multinational company here in Japan. That way, I can keep using my Japanese and improve it to be better.
The second achievement is about my grade. I understand that my kanji reading is really terrible but listening to it or talking in Japanese with a basic grammar still works just fine for me. So, I always tell my professors in class that I want to learn the subjects, but my struggle is kanji yet I’m willing to learn about it more. Gradually I learn everyday kanji, how to use the proper gestures, how to do a good writing in Japanese, and on and one. The professors are so helpful, so my study experience really is unforgettable and valuable for me.

In my other class, I also took several English classes, or Japanese culture class that being conducted in English, To my relief, I passed everything and I even got the highest score in TOEIC test this June. It really makes me happy as now I know how far I can achieve and challenge myself.
I want to set another goal for my other semester. I want to take JLPT in December to measure my Japanese skill and capability, and not just one, I want to take another private Japanese test too if I could. I really don’t want to waste another time to learn about Japanese more while being here, so I will take another Japanese class too at school that focused on Japanese presentation and reading. I know I will encounter with kanji again and it might be the difficult ones. But I really need to challenge myself while being here so I can achieve as much as I can.

Results of study abroad, future goals

My final semester finally passed. And this one-year study exchange program literally gives me many experiences. In the second semester, I learned many new things and I also became active in volunteering with NGO program. I will tell in detail about it:
1. I’m active in volunteering as a teacher for English camp with Japanese NGO, there I can learn many things like how to interact with kids, learning English with fun and games, especially to see up-close how education system works in Japan amongst NGO, or elementary school kids. I also see how they teach the kids about basic manner, shaping their upbringing and traits to behave good in society.
2. I’m also active in collaboration program that arranged by my host university, which is Kansai University of International Studies, that collaborated with local high school in order to introduce my own culture and teaching English and playing the games with the high schoolers. This program is fun because once more I really can see closer how Japanese education program works amongst highschoolers.
3. In school, I learn many new languages. In this semester I continue learning Japanese especially in speaking and reading, I also learned basic Chinese and Japanese sign language. What I got from here, I think about continue learning sign language too in my home country.
In Japanese, I joined in Japanese class and sensei really being so helpful with my Japanese ability. And because of that, I can pass my JLPT test also my Nat-Test. They also provided me with some tips on how to solve the questions in efficient time.
4. At job, I’m still active working part time in sushi restaurant near my school. And there now, I can know many things about making sushi, the name of ingredients they use in it, also the manner on how to eat sushi. It’s interesting for me as foreigners and many things I really want to do more when I go back to my home country.
About my own purpose after graduating here, I want to continue learning my Japanese and be excel in it. I want to pass N1 and be good at kanji and in the future, I really want to be better at kanji. I plan to take JLPT N2 in July, in my home country, and also, I will try another Japanese Language test aside from JLPT just to test my ability.
I want to graduate soon, and I really hope I can come back here again in the future for my master degree, and up until now, I can’t thank you enough for the experience they give me, also the scholarship the Hyogo prefecture provided me to make me focus more on my study. I want to study also work abroad and go further for my own experiences. I also want to work in multinational company, and Japan is one of my dream countries.
