Through studying at Kobe University, I was able to immerse myself in my Japanese studies in an environment that facilitated my learning. Being able to apply what I was learning to the everyday interactions I encountered in daily life, I was able to solidify what I learnt. That is to say, that physically being in Japan greatly accelerated the rate at which I was able to learn, and also facilitated the retention of the content I studied. Furthermore, I was able to learn a lot about Australia’s connection to, and relationship with, Japan.
I intend to continue studying and then eventually complete my degree upon returning to Australia. After, I plan to complete the necessary courses required to obtain a certificate permitting me to teach English to adults, though it isn’t necessarily a prerequisite for anything. I then plan to try and find suitable work in North Japan. I have not yet decided what avenue will best serve to land me in Japan, but there are several options including, but not limited to, the now the popular JET program.
