I moved to University of Hyogo and worked under supervision of Professor Shin-ichi Yusa for one month. The results have been divided into two separated parts and I successfully obtained the good results.
1. Synthesis and characterization of double-chain cationic surfactants.
〇 Synthesized hexadecyldimethyldodecylammonium chloride (C16C12(CH3)2NCl) and dodecyldimethyloctylammonium chloride (C12C8 (CH3)2NCl).
〇 Characterized the as-prepared surfactants by Critical Micelle Concentration measurement, TLC, DLS, NMR, IR.
〇 The as-prepared surfactants will be brought back to Curtin University to further characterize by equilibrium surface tension measurement dynamic surface tension measurement and molecular dynamic simulation.
〇 A manuscript will be prepared basing on these data.
2. Preparation and characterization of the Fe(OH)3 colloids with the six different surfactants.
〇 The six different surfactants which include C16H33(CH3)3NCl, C14H29(CH3)3NCl, C12H25(CH3)3NCl, C10H21(CH3)3NCl, C16C12(CH3)2NCl, C12C8(CH3)3NCl were successfully mixed with the FeCl3 0.1 M to generate the colloidal solutions.
〇 These colloidal solution were then measured DLS to investigate the size of particles.
〇 The main idea of these preparations is to investigate the effect of colloids on the stability of surfactants.
