I have been dreaming of working overseas since before I entered college. I took part in various activities which requires English ability, but I felt that I needed to improve my language skill.
I have kept on studying English until now. Recently, I thought I should study abroad to improve my language and communication ability and develop my nursing skills.
In the Department of Nursing, I am learning to become a nurse or a midwife, and I would like to work and make use of these qualifications. Therefore, I chose a general hospital in the Philippines for my internship.
After 3 week language program, I will take part in the internship program at the hospital, as an assistant nurse or a medical interpreter. I would like to learn how Filipino culture and customs have influenced the care for pregnant women and newborn babies, and postpartum care for puerperage. I hope to communicate with local staff proactively, utilizing the English ability I have learned so far, learn the differences of the medical fields in Japan and the Philippines, and get to know the various values and cultures of local staff.
I can really learn about a lot of things in three weeks of language training . I felt anxious about my listening skill and responding quickly in English. So, I tried to listen to subjects and verbs and ask parts I didn’t know. And then, I became to understand the correct meanings. I can also talk about my feelings fluently. Because I continued to speak English for a long time. Furthermore, I could notice that I didn’t have to speak perfect English. So, I felt it’s important to be proactive without being shy.
Today, my internship starts. I think I should act positively. I’ll do my best.
I went to St.Luke’s Medical Center for my internship. The hospital is one of the largest and the most advanced in Philippines.
This was my first internship. So, I was very nervous. But I was able to feel relieved because our supervisor was very kind. I was also able to communicate with many medical staff, like nurse and medical technician and physical therapist.
I could act actively and learn various things by making use of the results of the 3-week language training. In particular I learned about differences of medical between Japan and Philippines. So, I can have a meaningful internship.
Through this experience, I thought I wanted to work abroad. I continue to study English without forgetting this feeling.
